THE MISSION OF NELARUSKY

Since 2007, Nelarusky’s Mission has been to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics, as well as showcase both local and national acts through an annual benefit concert and partnership with Lollapalooza and Metro Chicago. Nelarusky also provides young entrepreneurs an incredible learning opportunity to volunteer at this event.

What started as a “Battle of the Bands” for students at various Chicago area high schools when Lauren McClusky was 16 has grown into an incredible part of Lollapalooza week each year and the opening night Aftershow. Nelarusky has now raised over $400K for Special Olympics and has featured acts such as Imagine Dragons, Alabama Shakes, Cold War Kids, Quinn XCII, Jon Bellion, Kali Uchis, Flosstradamus, Toro Y Moi, Sylvan Esso, City and Colour, and so many more.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

The dream of Eunice Kennedy Shriver to help those with intellectual disabilities live a more normal life through sports, began with her back yard camp in the early 1960’s. Illinois takes great pride in the history of this amazing global movement, having been the site of the first Special Olympics games at Soldier Field and the home to some of the early visionaries in the movement. Today, there are Special Olympics programs in more than 150 countries.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship. They are able to do so with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. For more information on Special Olympics Illinois visit www.soill.org.

Funds raised from Nelarusky will benefit the over 23,100 athletes who participate with Special Olympics Illinois. 81% of every dollar raised will go towards athlete programming, which includes incurring the costs that are needed to run the 200+ competitions a year in Illinois. Special Olympics Illinois does not charge anything to its athletes to compete in these events.
